Welcome!
The pages on this website explain what Climate Change is, and what is happening to our world now. They also enable you to take action yourself, and to encourage the United Nations and our World Leaders to act.
We aren’t dealing with the climate crisis. We need to start taking it seriously. We need to limit climate change in a coordinated way.
We can make a difference by understanding what climate change is, by changing our behaviour, and by writing to our World Leaders and asking them to act on our behalf. You can make a difference yourself, and email our World Leaders here. Tell World Leaders that:
This is Our World Too.
Below is an easy summary of the pages on this website:
What climate change is ,
Who are the IPCC and what is their message about climate change ,
Why do we need to limit global temperature increases to 1.5C,
What is happening to our world?,
Why Are We Over Fishing?
What is Happening to the environment to each continent, under pages for each continent,
What Can We Do ourselves, and
The latest world climate news
Hothouse Earth
If you read no further could I encourage you to read this book. It is short, easy to read and very clear about what we are doing to the Earth and what could happen if we don’t change our habits.
Why? - This is Our World Too.
I am not a politician or a scientist, I am an engineer and didn’t have the first idea on how to create a website - and still don’t. I just knew that I wanted to do my bit and find and give out the email addresses of our world leaders so that it would be easy for anyone to contact them and encourage them to act to stop climate change. I want to be the catalyst that sets off a worldwide mass movement of contacting our leaders, as I believe that we can all do our bit. In the Amazon tribes are destroying the camps of loggers to protect their indigenous land. In the UK I can send an email and consume responsibly. Both actions can achieve the same goal.
As I researched climate change I then found so much relevant information that I wanted to collate it as best as I could and put it all in one place. Hence the other pages on what climate change is, the IPCC, the significance of 1.5C, the environmental triggers or indicators of catastrophic change, on overfishing and of course all the news that pours in constantly. I apologise the news is always behind on here because it’s a task in itself, with a busy family life to keep it updated. You never know, it might be up to date one day. On Twitter I am also the sceptical optimist if that is possible… Happy browsing and I hope this website informs and inspires you to also do your bit.
My and Our Future
Whilst awake one night and unable to sleep, I found myself contemplating the future of humanity. What is the future for my child as she grows up? For all our children? Can we get ourselves out of this predicament that we are in? Are we facing extinction?
I like to read news articles about the world, and to see what is happening. At this time in early 2019 there were lots of articles about the weather and climate. I live in the UK, and not a month went by without it being the wettest, hottest, driest or with something happening that was unusual, like the most amount of rainfall in 24 hours. This got me thinking as I lay awake. How can we change this? Can we change this? Is there a way out? We all behave as if we are on our own, but can we adopt a more collaborative mentality, likes bees in a nest? All bees have their roles and work together to keep the queen happy. I wondered about the worker bees all working together in this way. I am a worker bee, the queen is our world. This gave me some hope and an idea formed. . . . . .
This is Our World Too.
It is hoped that this website will help us all to work together as one society to make the world a better place for ourselves, and more importantly, for future generations. By politely prodding world leaders and drawing attention to the fact that their actions are not only affecting their own citizen’s lives, they are affecting us all. By writing a letter or sending an email, we can remind world leaders that they are being watched, and that we (and they) all have a responsibility to each other, as well as to future generations. It is not unreasonable for the young to now be asking us all to act in a manner to ensure that the lives of future generations are not affected. If this means making changes and sacrifices now, then so be it. Let us all do our bit, and in particular let’s urge our leaders to learn the lessons of the past, embrace the wisdom of the present, and prevent regrets of the future.
Humankind is beautiful. You are part of humanity and we are collectively responsible for this world. We are all linked by a long genetic history, brothers and sisters. We live in our own communities with other people who share similar characteristics to ourselves. These communities form countries. The countries of the Earth have within them the areas which we can inhabit. THIS IS OUR WORLD, It provides our home, our food, our livelihood, our sanctuary, and our safety. It is our mother Earth and without this we are nothing.
We all live together on this planet that we have called Earth. We should all share its wealth, its bounty and its wonder. However, if one of us decides to get greedy we can all suffer. Children with the most exciting toys need supervision to ensure that they share and play together nicely. In the same way we all need to supervise each other, to ensure that not one of us makes selfish decisions that will impact on us all.
“The world has enough for everyone's needs, but not everyone's greed," said Mahatma Gandhi
This is Our World Too.
We all have an individual responsibility to each other now and across time to maintain for future generations what we have and enjoy now. This website is your way of demonstrating your responsibility to others. This is your way of being able to supervise others, and to tell them that perhaps they are not behaving in the way that will benefit future generations and mankind.
Over millions of years our planet has evolved, it has been hot, cold, wet and dry. It will continue to do this whether humankind thrives or not due to natural variability. Humankind is thriving, we are reaching population levels that we cannot have thought possible a hundred years ago. We are needing to occupy, to use and to find the Earth’s resources to sustain us. We are like bacteria hungrily eating its way through the available food, and like bacteria we don't think about tomorrow. We cannot be complacent. Our very existence depends on carefully planning and using the Earth’s resources in a considered and careful way.
Scientists tell us that we must change our behaviour now. Using the child analogy, our mother is telling us to put down that toy, to give it and share it with other children. She is not telling us to stop playing, she is telling us to play in a more considerate way with our fellow children. The Scientists are telling us that we must use fewer resources, we must do more to conserve what we have and to prevent climate change. A child ignores its mother at its peril. We ignore the Scientist at our peril. Together we can do this.
This is Our World Too.
Make a difference and play your part by telling others that you are aware of the damage that they are doing to our Earth, that you understand their need to enable their people to survive. However, their behaviour should change otherwise it has the potential to impact on the future survival of their people and us all. This is our home. We all need to take care of it. THIS IS OUR WORLD TOO.
COVID - 19
During the COVID - 19 pandemic when this website was being prepared it is clear that being locked down does result in a huge reduction in pollution globally as reported in World news. COVID - 19 for all its faults has shown us a way out, like a small chink of light in a dark room. Will we choose to walk towards this light, to fly less, drive less, to consume less and to be more conscious of our environmental choices? COID - 19 has shown us that when we need to act together as a society - when we are in fear of something, that we can act together, and not as individuals. Will we manage to continue to do this after the pandemic has passed?
