EMAIL A WORLD LEADER !
Hold the United Nations and World Leaders to account by emailing them direct. Leaders like to hear from CEO’s of global corporations and not children or adults from around the World. Therefore we should tell them what we think so that they hear from us too. Amnesty International say that letter writing does work, In the same way your email could make a difference to helping save the Amazon.
A polite email to the United Nations or a World Leader may encourage them to consider behaving responsibly to all of us.
For The United Nations
Currently the United Nations writes reports as detailed on this website and holds conferences to talk about them, but can do little else. The United Nations could become the Worlds enforcer or manager of climate change. It could make sure that nations act on what they say, and help to protect us all. The UN is like a distant football coach trying to direct the players. Instead it needs to be on the pitch getting the players to do better. Here is my suggested email.
Dear the United Nations,
I believe that only the United Nations can force all nations to stop burning fossil fuels by 2030,, including coal, oil and gas. We need to do this to keep global temperature rise to within 1.5C. If the UN does not force nations to act, then some will act and others will not. Only the United Nations can act for all of us. The UN must do more than write reports and hold annual conferences. Now, it must act for us all. Please pass this message to the Secretary General for him to take action on my behalf. Thank You. (Give your name, Country and age).

Your Excellency,
I love trees, I love climbing them, and drawing them. Lots of bright looking birds and monkeys live in trees and it rains a lot in the Amazon too.
My mummy says that the rainforest is being chopped down really fast. Please don’t let people cut down the trees as the world needs the trees to breathe in the air. This is our world too.
Yours sincerely

Dear United Nations
I love fish, I love watching them swim about and drawing them. Nemo has lots of bright colours and he is orange which is my favourite colour.
My mummy says that grown ups are taking so many fish out of the sea that there may not be any left once I am a grown up. Please can you protect them as I don’t want all animals in the sea to die.
Yours sincerely

Your Excellency,
I love trees, I love climbing them, and drawing them. Lots of bright looking birds and amazing Orangutans live in trees and swing around in the canopy.
My mummy says that the rainforest is being chopped down really fast. She says that oil in my chocolate has come from the rainforest, so I stopped eating it. It’s my favourite I miss it. Please don’t let people cut down the trees as the world needs the trees to stop it getting so hot. This is our world too.

Your Excellency ,
I am writing because scientists tell us in even more bleak terms that we must reduce our global CO2 emissions for the world to be able to stabilise temperatures to an increase below 1.5OC above pre-industrial levels. This means that we have to act now to reduce emissions globally.
Your great country is cutting down trees in the Amazon rainforest for logging, ranching, mega-dams, roads, oil and gas exploration and more. This is affecting us all. We need the forest to soak up the CO2 and not emit it.
The UN secretary general António Guterres has sounded the alarm by saying:
“Climate change is the defining challenge of our time. We are currently way off track to meeting either the 1.5C or 2C targets that the Paris agreement calls for. Time is fast running out for us to avert the worst impacts of climate disruption and protect our societies.”
Please can I encourage you to do your bit for the planet and stop cutting down trees in the Amazon, and instead work with indigenous peoples of the Amazon to protect what is there and to manage it for all of our futures. I ask this because This Is Our World Too.
Yours sincerely

Dear The United Nations ,
I am writing because Scientists tell us in even more bleak terms that we must reduce our global impact from fisheries and learn to take fewer fish out of the sea if we want to continue to eat them.
It is clear that in many national and international waters fishing is now out of control, with the use of pair trawlers and supertrawlers. The fish do not stand a chance if we let this continue. It does not seem that we can learn to fish within sustainable limits unfortunately.
Controls should be put in place to limit all fishing. We should be able to monitor and tell countries when to stop, to impound ships if we have to. Otherwise every fishery in the world will die out, and there will be no fish left in the sea. We know that this can happen as it already has with Whales, and has the potential to happen with fish.
Please can I encourage you to consider ways to stop countries from over fishing, and to control how much fish they take from the sea. ask this because This Is Our World Too.
Yours sincerely

Your great country is using a lot of coal for its power. You have 10% of world reserves so this is understandable. The burning of coal is affecting us all, with increased emissions of CO2 are now at 407 parts per million. They have shot up since the 1960's and are now the highest they have been for the last 800,000 years.

Your great country is the worlds highest producer of oil and uses a lot of electricity per person, and has some of the highest amounts of Carbon Dioxide emissions per person of all Countries. The pollution is largely a result of the generation of power from coal, oil and gas. Scientists say that you have reduced your coal consumption by a lot in 2019 and this great news. Higher CO2 emissions globally is affecting us all, with increased emissions of CO2 are now at 407 parts per million. They have shot up since the 1960's and are now the highest they have been for the last 800,000 years.

The EU has many environmental laws and rules and has announced its intent to be net zero in CO2 emissions by 2050. However as Greta Thunberg has written “‘We don’t just need goals for just 2030 or 2050. We, above all, need them for 2020 and every following month and year to come,” Levels of CO2 are now at 407 parts per million. They have shot up since the 1960's and are now the highest they have been for the last 800,000 years. That’s 10,000 of your lifetimes if you lived to 80 each time. As Greta has said “When your house is on fire you don’t wait a few more years before putting it out”.
Please can I encourage you to do your bit for the planet and urge European Countries to adopt changes now and before we get to 2050. I ask this because This Is Our World Too.

May I take this opportunity to ask that the UK takes every chance that it can to demonstrate in action how it will be reducing its CO2 emissions now rather than in 2050. It is great that the UK is the first major economy in the world to pass laws to end its contribution to global warming by 2050. However levels of CO2 are now at 407 parts per million. They have shot up since the 1960's and are now the highest they have been for the last 800,000 years. That’s 10,000 of your lifetimes if you lived to 80 each time.
